Roman Martyrology Martyrs: Saints Nereus and Achilleus, martyrs, who, as indicated by Pope St. Damasus, were two young men had enlisted in the army and carried away by fear, were ready to obey orders of the magistrate impious, but after becoming the true God left the army, throwing their shields, weapons and uniforms, happy with their success as confessors Christ. : Achilles = He who fights without a sword, is of Greek origin. These two characters were in the service of Flavia Domitilla, one of the first ladies of Rome.
The historian Eusebius says that this noble lady was the niece of Emperor Domitian, and that this president sent into exile, because she had declared follower of Jesus Christ.
